Capital Funk presents its 3rd Annual Showcase entitled, “Funk Academy” for its DMV area. The show will take place on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at The GW Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC.

For every ticket sold, Capital Funk will give a portion of the proceeds to DC Dance Collective (DCDC), which has supported Capital Funk and the dance community of the Washington DC area.

So what’s so different about this show from your typical dance competition? Well, for one, its NOT a COMPETITION…it’s a showcase! Funk Academy features a variety of performers such as:

Hip Hop Dance groups

  • Capital Funk (GWU);
  • Culture Shock DC;
  • Kickrocks Crew (DC);
  • The Kids (DC);
  • Major Definition (UMBC);
  • DyNaMiC Dance Team (UMD)

Spoken Word Artists

  • Elizabeth Acevedo (GWU);
  • Nana Ofori-Tawia Adu-Krow (GWU)

  • Subwoofer Science (DC);
  • Daniel J. Cohn (DC) & DJ Ben Arsenal (Philly)

  • Matt Wilson (GWU)

  • Ryan Thornton (GWU)

If that’s not enough incentive for you to go and watch the show, this year’s MAIN EVENT 1st place winners — Capital FUNK — will be performing TWO sets for the show: one for the opener, and one for the finale!

    pD_style is a site originally conceived by the minds of Tai Nguyen and Myron Merced for the promotional and informational happenings to the community of the Project D Dance Troupe -- its dancers, members, friends, and family. The site, since its humble beginnings, has evolved to include an informational outlet about the East Coast Dance Scene and its continual progression on top of your Project D news.
