Summer is done, and some schools have been back in session. When September comes around, it marks the advent of the new dance season! For all you aspiring dancers out there, it means auditions are everywhere (as well as workshops and special dance events!). If you want to join a team this season, there are plenty of opportunities for you this month — actually, this weekend! Peep the info below. *Heavy post!*


RHYTHMOLOGY is back for the 2009-2010 season! Since their West Coast debut at Team Millennia’s Prelude Socal 08′, and their 2nd place win at Prelude East Coast  09 held at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City, this North Jersey centered team has been coming up in the scene, especially with their most famous event, entitled STEP UP or GET SMOKED!

This Saturday, Rhythmology is holding Company auditions for the 2009-2010 dance season. Audition process is different this year as the normal one day audition will now be a two day audition, with grouping and the audition choreo being taught this saturday, and the audition performance with the original choreo being held on the 19th! Both days are required to audition and each day is $5! GET there at 12PM!

Meanwhile Creative Image studios doesn’t rest after Rhythmology’s auditions. Later on from 8:00PM until 11:30PM, RHYTHMOLOGY’s freestyle battle event STEP UP or GET SMOKED is BACK for its third Session. SUoGS3 has been revamped to include separate popping, locking, and bboying divisions for battle. ENTRANCE is $7, and the prize if you win? Sprinkles. No really, the winner gets the coveted fame of being the one that  SMASHED everyone in their division to bits and eencey wincey pieces. Get there early since space in the STUDIO is cozy and limited. Parking is plenty if you enter from the backside of Washington Ave. Guest judges include, Mark “poppinfresh” Serrano (Rhythmology, Mixed Nuts), Bryan East (Boogie Bots, RESET), WILD CARD, Darrvi Calotes (RESET, Fr3sh Freestyle Crew), Sam the locker Ng (RESET, Rhythmology), SuitKace [Breakz Kru// Part-Time Models], and Herick [ TAC ]. Competition will be hard this session!

PROJECT D Dance Company‘s classes are BACK! If you’ve been wanting to get some great training, but didn’t have the money to dish out for a dance class, then this is your LUCKY BREAK. To ring in the new school year, Project D is bringing back their FREE DANCE DAY this SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12 from 1-3PM at Step by Step Dancesport.

Whats on the menu this time? Well, if you’re hungry…then take a popping fusion class with first time collabo Marwin Lustre x Lexine Deluca x Arber Matai at 1PM — YES a three way collabo piece! Then at 2PM, Jeff Laconcio and Steven Armendi team up once again to bring you a new dope choreographed piece.

The best thing about it? IT costs only $0.00! YES. ITS FREE! Who doesn’t love free class? Classes start at 1PM and 2PM on the dot so get there early since parking is limited. If you were there for Arber Matai and Marwin Lustre’s collabo class, then you remember how packed that classroom was!

Also definitely head over to Creative Image after Project D’s FREE DANCE DAY for Step UP or GET SMOKED 3, where first time 2v2 entrants Lexine Deluca and Arber Matai will be battling to represent Project D! Come out and support your local dance community!

TRY out for VIBES Dance team! Come tryout for the ONLY ALL FEMALE hip-hop dance team at Boston University! Vibes is a close-knit group of 16 girls who perform, compete, and dance all around Boston and the east coast. This Sunday, SEPTEMBER 13th, VIBES hold auditions for their new season at Sargent Dance Studio from 2:00PM until 4:00PM.

All female scene is not your thing? Looking for something a little more, co-ed? THEN try out for  Boston College’s SYNERGY Dance Team (not to be confused with Project D’s SYNERGY workshop series). Synergy Hip Hop Dance Company was started in fall 2004 by former Director and Assistant Director Whitnie Low (’07) and D.J. Leak (’07) with 21 original members. Entering its fifth year, SYNERGY dance team hopes to put on a great entertaining season for  its Boston locale, and the rest of the neighboring tri-state area, and beyond.

Brown University’s very own FUSION Dance COMPANY will be holding their own AUDITIONS for the upcoming school year this SEPTEMBER 12 from 9:45am until 2:00PM in TF Green 205. EARLY auditions? YES they are…but are they worth it?—YOU BET.  Auditions will be a two part process:
First section will be basic technique- kicks, turns and leaps.
Second section will be three different types of choreography, performing them in groups.

If you haven’t heard of FUSION, then peep this: Fusion Dance Company was founded in 1983, and is Brown’s oldest student-run dance group. We strive to be a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic group of men and women who do not conform to modern day constraints on body shape, size, or style of choreography – hence the name Fusion!


Later on SEPTEMBER 17th,  TF Green 205 gets some more action with imPULSE dance company’s auditions. Auditions are on a thursday night, from 6:30PM until 10:00PM!  Peep for more info on their audition format!
