“GorillaStyle, Guerilla Tactics”

pDstyle, as you all may know, is mostly geared towards our growing dance community (mostly centered around the choreography game). That unfortunately is a misconception! Although the freestyle scene is on the opposite end of the dance team choreography scene (and vice versa), we’re still all a part of the SAME community — what we lack, is continual dialogue and awareness of the other.  I haven’t found an exceptional piece of content to give the art of the freestyle scene much justice…until now.

SOULTION

“GorillaStyle, Guerilla Tactics” is a new series production brought to you by the collaboration of Carlo Gracias (the main man of Manila Gorilla), Michael Suitkace Capito (NYC’s Bboy Suitkace) and Ryan HyDROponikz Abugan (Hydroponikz the MC). The new video series showcases the best of known and unknown talent in Hip-Hop located in the Tri-State Area! This series was created to become your goto guide for artists in the northeast!

“Show me what you can do in one minute!”

The series pilot kicks off with BKC/Breaks Kru BBoy, EROCK.

The second issue of Gorilla Style Guerrilla Tactics features  Frankie Perez from Supreme Beings Crew. According to the producers, “His unique and aggressive style gave us no other choice but to be one of our first features for GSGT.” The video has also been featured on BreakerNYC.com! Peep the video to see why Frankie is definitely on his way to the top to being one of New York City’s greatest.

If you have great diggs of your own, please post them up as a comment! ECDC love.

PRIDE 2: Dance Competition @ RUTGERS NB

ITS been almost ONE year since the first PRIDE Dance Competition presented by Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority, INC and Pi Delta Psi Fraternity, INC. at Rutgers University New Brunswick campus. Excitement for the event has been building since they first announced the event slated for OCTOBER. As well as everyone in the NJ/NYC scene has known since the first announcement, the early target date initially threw most of the dance teams a surprise by how early it was revealed. As a result, most teams were not ready at all to compete leaving only an initial showcase/competition total of only five teams on the October date. Unfortunately (due to some other difficulties), the show was rescheduled to a later (and much more recognizable) date of November — when they actually first unveiled Pride. This SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 22nd, PRIDE 2 hits the NJ dance scene bringing back big name competitors such as, E.P.I.C. Motion, SERCis Company, Rutgers Dance Team (RDT), Team Technique, and last year’s champions –Project D Dance Company.

In addition to the established teams, there is new talent on the horizon for this years Pride 2, featuring new to the NJ/NYC scene groups such as: Miracle Project, Outta Kontrol, YFAMD (MD), and Phunktions (UMD).

Despite the atmosphere of competition, its really great to see an explosion of new teams coming out of the wood work. Whether or not there is hype around them, or if a team is good or not shouldn’t be the issue.

The realization should be…DIVERSIFICATION.

It means new ideas and self expression is taking place. It also means that truly our dance community is growing. Give it time and something exceptionally original and unmistakably beautiful to public appeal is bound come from our budding dance community.

REDBULL BC ONE comes HOME to NYC

Carlos Mare 139 Rodriguez is an internationally acclaimed artist/sculptor and pioneer in the art and culture of Hip Hop. This masterpiece located on Allen and Delancy Street in NYC is his original concept work and credit goes to him (as well as the photo). The translation of the painting into this huge massive advertisement goes to Baby168 TVS and his painter, Charlie. Most importantly…
