SUNDAY, June 21:
Fr3sh Dance Co. will be holding its third week of “Recession Special” classes – only $5 per class! (A good deal in these tough times… especially for such amazing choreographers!) This Sunday’s class, which will be held at AIM Dance Academy in Matawan, NJ, will be taught by Amanda Suk (Fr3sh, E.P.I.C. Motion Co-Artistic Director) & Shoey Sun (E.P.I.C. Motion Co-Artistic Director) from 3:30-5 PM. Check the Facebook event for details, and check out some of the previous classes:
As always, keep checking pDStyle.wordpress.com for all your East Coast dance info – workshops, special events, and overall awesomeness. And if you’ve got something you think should be on the blog, let us know! E-mail projectd.nj@gmail.com with the goodness.
Out on the West Coast, another important dance event played out this past Saturday: Body Rock. Started as Bustagroove 10 years ago, Body Rock has become one of California’s iconic events. PDStyle’s Myron Merced & Ken Estrellas caught up with Fr3sh alumni Kristina Latonio (SGBM) & Karlo Soria (PAC Modern), & frequent East Coast visitor Brian Puspos (SoReal Cru) after the event to get their opinions, shoutouts, and reflect on good times here on the East Coast. Check out the video below:
This past Saturday, at the Roseland Ballroom in NYC, World of Dance Tour made its East Coast debut, complete with massive exhibitions & competitions. Props to everyone who came out, but ESPECIALLY big props to Project D for taking second place!!! Take a look at the vids (videos courtesy of BloggingABDC & pinoiboirich):
First Place: Studio One
Second Place: Project D!!!
Third Place: Rhythm City
Much has been said about the different styles of dance in our scene – popping, locking, tutting, waving, bboying, house, wacking / punking, choreography, the list goes on. However, we shouldn’t forget, at the heart of everything – dance is dance. Check this out:
Buddha Stretch was one of the pioneers for choreography as we know it today. He was the very first choreographer to teach hip-hop in a mainstream dance studio – New York’s Broadway Dance Center – in 1989. (Longer than many of us have been alive!) Dancers of his generation weren’t confined to one style, and that’s what made them great.
“Do what the music dictates… That’s what defines me, the MUSIC…”
