This video is a goldmine for the history of house music heritage that came to be from Newark, NJ. I think everyone should realize what a rich cultured state we have.
More things you should know from the other counterparts of our East Coast breatheren coming soon!
Just a really quick update for yall; especially all of our dancers further down south from the DMV!
Virginia Tech’s Asian American Student Union Spring Concert this Friday is featuring the DMV’s very own Boogie Bots Crew and many peoples’ favorite singer/songwriter, Jeremy Manongdo, aka ‘Passion’.
So if anyone has seen the call out on myspace, or the fr3sh email blast, then you’ve heard of the Clearasil Pimple Blocker competition that been happening these past few weeks at ICON Dance Complex. Yet another company trying to capitalize on the dance movement by doing a derivative take on ABDC’s success and formula is Clearasil. Anyway, the follow vid below shows an OG from our immediate dance scene in NJ. See if you can find out who I’m talking about!
Up-and-coming dance crews will compete in the Clearasil® Pimple Blocker Battle at the Hard Rock Cafe Times Square on April 7, 2009, for the opportunity to become the first Clearasil® Dance Crew. The battle will feature a celebrity host and a panel of judges including Drew Lachey and celebrity choreographer, GEO.
Another dance movie? Yeah, mayne! From the creators of You Got Served, comes yet another dance movie. And by the looks of the trailer, it looks like they got it right — dancing wise. It definitely looks like a West Side storyish Hip Hop dance remix catered to the new dancing generation, and by the looks of who’s casted (Hok from Quest Crew, Mike Song and Tony Tran from Kaba Modern, and The Company/GEN2’s Shaun Evaristo, to name a few…) the dancing will nothing but straight hype and fire. However as with most dance movies, the story ends up really cheesy, predictable, or just plain corny. If this one has super powers as it suggests, then the gimmick might backfire. Eitherway, its just so refreshing to see the community dancers from our west coast counterpart make it onto the big screen! Mad love from the EC to ya’ll!
Results are in! This year’s FLASH Dance Competition 2009 winners are…
Fr3sh Juniors!
The the top 3 judges picks were rhythm city, hip hop theory, and fr3sh juniors. Of the three, Rhythm City was eliminated, moving Hip Hop Theory and Fr3SH Juniors to the final battle round.
More updates and recaps to come. (Major thanks to Marc Andre Densing for the info!)
As you all know, WOD is coming to NYC in JUNE. If you’ve heard of World of Dance or seen the footage on YT, then you know this is a pretty big deal for everyone in the community. The networking, the reach, the audience, and just the overall experience is second to none. However, before this amazing dance/convention event hits up NYC, WOD will start up at Pomona on April 4th.
Peep this year’s flyer as some of our community will be breaking barriers by being some of the first from the east side (as well as the dirty south) to represent both in exhibition (Fr3sh Dance Company; NJ) and competition (X-Cross Applesauce; NYC). Congrats and good luck to the teams!
So this is nothing dance related, but seeing as how most of our dance community are of the Filipino majority, I think video is well worth posting…also because it is EXTREMELY DOPE. (Besides, there are a couple of cameos from people within our EC Dance Community in this vid!—Rex, Darvi, Suitkace…etc. just to name a few) MABUHAY!
This FRIDAY, check out the OG dance competition that helped start the dance scene in the NYC/NJ area. FLASH Dance Troupe of Seton Hall Univ brings you their annual dance team competition (previously known as FLASH DTC) with a TWIST! This competition differs from their previous versions being that there is only one winner! Top two (scored by the judging panel) of the entire competition get sent to a head to head finals round where each perform a smaller set to the same master mix (previously provided). Winner of finals is determined by crowd vote!
This & last week, LA has been able to bless the DMV with the presence of Jojo Diggs! Jojo will be teaching this Thursday’s Culture Shock DC Advanced/Professional Company class and workshops in House/Hip Hop/Jazz Funk at Contradiction Dance. If you haven’t heard of her or seen her style/choreography, then you need to get on it!
